Northbound lanes of I-270 reopened after crash

August 08, 2013

All lanes of northbound Interstate 270 north of New Design Road in Frederick County reopened around 12:15 p.m., after an crash earlier today closed the northbound lanes, according to the Maryland State Highway Administration.

The northbound lanes were closed as a result of a motor vehicle collision that occurred this morning at 5:40 am.

The collision involved a single vehicle, a Chevrolet Malibu, which traveled off of the roadway and struck a pole holding an overhead sign. The operator of the vehicle was injured and transported by ambulance to Meritus Medical Center in Hagerstown.

“There were some delays and we had to establish detours,” said Charlie Gischlar, a spokesman for the SHA.

Gischlar said the lanes were closed about 8:30 a.m. and the “sign was removed and taken away.”

According to the Maryland State Police, traffic is being detoured from northbound I-270 onto the ramp to I-70. Traffic will be able to travel onto either I-70 eastbound or I-70 westbound as a result of the detour.
