August 07, 2013

NEW MARKET, Md. — A 16-year-old Clear Spring resident was flown to the R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore following a single-car crash early Tuesday on National Pike west of Green Valley Road, the Frederick County (Md.) Sheriff’s Office said.

The injured person was riding in the back seat of a 2002 Saturn that went off the road and came to rest along the westbound shoulder, according to a news release from the sheriff’s office.

The release did not provide the individual’s name, and it was not available from the sheriff’s office Wednesday night.

Anthony M. Burgwald Jr. of Emmitsburg, Md., was driving the Saturn west on Old National Pike, when he entered a curve and lost control of the car, the release said.

Burgwald and two other passengers refused to be transported for medical care, the release said.

Driver error appears to have contributed to the crash, which was reported to police at 1:51 a.m.

The investigation is continuing, the release said.
