'Night of Jazz' set for Aug. 15 at University Plaza

Friends of the Doleman Black Heritage Museum, Hagerstown-Washington County Conventions Visitors Bureau and the City of Hagerstown will present “A Night of Jazz” Thursday, Aug. 15, from 6 to 10 p.m. in University Plaza.

There is no cost to attend.

University Plaza at the University System of Maryland-Hagerstown is downtown at 32 W. Washington St.

Attendees are welcome to bring lawn chairs.

The lineup includes Hagerstown’s Off the Block, Jazz (OTB) Band and ReFreshed Band of Prince Anne, Md., opening for saxophonist Phillip Doc Martin, whose latest CD release, “Good Day at Work,” is in stores.

The co-mistress and master of ceremonies are Hagerstown natives Naki Claybon-Frierson and Darren Bell Sr.

Other sponsors for the event are Steve Swayne of State Farm Insurance and Wantz Distributors.

Nonprofits are invited to set up tables at the event at no charge.
