David Paul “Bub” Maravia, 85, of Hagerstown, Md., passed away Friday, Aug. 2, 2013, at Autumn Assisted Living Center in Hagerstown.

Born June 13, 1928, in Benbush, W.Va., he was the son of the late John J. Maravia Sr. and Grace Alma Hartman.

David served for more than 26 years in the U.S. Army, with three tours of duty in the Korean War and two tours in the Vietnam War. He rose to the rank of command sergeant major and served in many posts throughout the world. 

Employment in Maryland and New Jersey filled the remainder of David’s working career.

David is survived by his wife, Cecilla Maravia of Hagerstown; a daughter, Maxine Clements of Madison Heights, Va.; a sister, Ella Sheally of Cumberland, Md.; brothers, George K. Maravia and wife, Dina, of Athens, Greece, Franklin Hartman of Hagerstown, William Hartman and wife, Nancy, of Cumberland, Gary M. Hartman and wife, Sherrie, of Cumberland and Jerry Hartman and wife, Catherine, of Slanesville, W.Va.; grandchildren, Brenda Young and Andrew Clements; three great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. in the Maryland Veterans Cemetery Chapel at Rocky Gap, Flintstone, Md. Burial will be in Rocky Gap Veterans Cemetery. Military honors will be accorded by the American Legion Post 13 Veterans Honor Guard.

Arrangements are by Minnich Funeral Home, 415 East Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown.
