Leo Woodrow Socks, 74, of Hagerstown, Md., died Saturday, Aug. 3, 2013, at University of Maryland Medical Center in Baltimore, Md.

Born Sept. 29, 1938, in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late Ernest R. Socks Sr. and Anna Elizabeth King Socks.

He was a retired gunnery sergeant in the military.

He was a member of VFW, Paralyzed Veterans of America and the Clear Spring American Legion.

He is survived by Phyllis Socks, his wife of 57 years; a daughter, Kelly Shank and husband, Kevin; two sons, Charles “Eddie” Socks and wife, Cathy, and David Socks and wife, Kimberly; grandchildren, Stacie Ryland and husband, Bradley, Charles Socks Jr. and wife, April, Kerri Shank and fiancé, Steve Pompell, Kevin Shank and wife, Lindsey, and Jessika Wilt and husband, Caleb; great-grandchildren, Austin, Kaitlyn, Destiny, Brady, Devyn, Alex, Dominic, Andrew, Alexis, Steven, Brandon, Kevin, Dillan, Kailey, Madysen and Haley; two sisters, Evelyn “Ebb” Renner and Betty Neff; a brother, Ronald L. Socks; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
He was preceded in death by sisters, Doris Grove and Patricia Parks; and brothers, Ernest Socks Jr., Charles Socks, Robert Socks and Kenneth Socks.

Funeral services will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd. The Rev. Scott Johnston will officiate. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Park in Williamsport, Md.

The family will receive friends Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
