August 06, 2013

Maryland State Police are investigating a hit-and-run accident north of Boonsboro Tuesday morning that sent one person to the hospital.

The incident occurred at about 8:15 a.m. on Mapleville Road in the area of Benevola Church Road, police said in a news release.

A white Jeep Liberty driven by James Bagwell of Fairmont, W.Va., was traveling south on Mapleville Road when the driver of a blue pickup truck traveling north lost control on the wet road and slid into the southbound lane, hitting the Jeep, according to police.

After the collision, the driver of the truck fled the scene without stopping, police said.

Bagwell was injured and taken by ambulance to Meritus Medical Center near Hagerstown, authorities said.

Police described the truck as a dark blue, full-size pickup truck, with damage to the driver’s side near the rear wheel and rear quarter panel.

The vehicle, believed to be a Ford or a Chevrolet, will have a broken real taillight on the driver’s side, police said.

Anyone who has information about the incident may contact Senior Trooper Kenneth Cain in the Hagerstown state police barrack at 301-766-3800, ext. 4011.
