HAGERSTOWN — Ryan Crabtree pulled off his own version of a double-double on Monday at Beaver Creek Country Club.

With the WACO Junior Golf player of the year title tucked away, Crabtree went out and won the championship, going down to the final hole before pulling out the victory.

Crabtree was the player of the year in 2012 but did not win the championship. Monday’s 18th hole will add to the happy memory bank for 2013.

Stepping to the final tee box, Crabtree and Cody Trunkle were tied.

Crabtree hit the fairway while Trunkle found trouble in the trees, eventually leading to a double bogey.

Meanwhile, Crabtree’s approach shot to the 18th green was about 25 feet to the right of the left-center cut flag and past it, leaving a testy downhill right-to-left putt.

With the right speed, Crabtree watch his ball roll into the cup for a birdie, good for a 2-over-par 74.

“Your goal every time you come out is to do as good as you can,” said Crabtree, completing his final year of junior golf. “I’m happy to win. I hit only three fairways, but the others weren’t that far off the mark and I hit some good recovery shots.”

Trunkle ended with a 5-over-par 77 to finish second. Nick Franki was third with a 79.

Crabtree, Trunkle and Franki each earned $500 scholarships.

The WACO Junior kicked off a week off action at Beaver Creek Country Club.

Tonight is a member qualifier for the WACO championship, which will be held Saturday and Sunday. The Chi-Chi’s Shootout is held on Thursday and the Long Drive Contest on Friday.
