Family health day planned at Fort Ritchie

CASCADE, Md. — The Fort Ritchie Community Center in Cascade will offer a free day of health screenings, exercise classes and information for families, children and seniors Saturday, Aug. 17, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Located at the former Fort Ritchie, the community center is along the Blue Ridge, overlooking twin lakes.

The Healthy Family Expo will include a Punt, Pass and Kick competition for boys and girls ages 6 to 15.

The event will include massage and sound therapy; Life Net 81 Helicopter; Smokey Bear; McGruff the Crime Dog; fire and rescue displays; blood pressure screenings and hearing tests; exercise classes, including cardio sculpt, body pump, Zumba, pilates and hip-hop for children.

The center’s Fierce Cheerleading squad will give a demonstration.

There will be health and nutrition information for children and seniors.

There will also be information about acupuncture, mental health, fitness, helmet safety, injury rehab, colonics, senior benefit services, caregivers, pregnancy and other topics.

Admission is free.

The event will also feature face painting and an inflatable bounce for children, food and door prizes, including a one-year membership to  the center.
