Church plans giveaway Aug. 17

The community is invited to a free-for-all giveaway at St. John’s Lutheran Church’s courtyard Saturday, Aug. 17, from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m.

Gently used clothing and household items will be available — all for free.

The event is co-hosted by the Unitarian Universalist Church of Hagerstown and St. John’s Lutheran Church. 

The church is at 141 S. Potomac St. across from the library in downtown Hagerstown. In case of inclement weather, the event will be held in the church’s education building. For more information, call 301-790-2510.

Golf tournament to help Children’s Village

Children’s Village of Washington County will host its 19th annual Keep Our Kids Safe Four-man Scramble Golf Classic Friday, Sept. 6, at Black Rock Golf Course. 

A putting contest begins at 11 a.m. and the shotgun start will be at noon. 

A hole-in-one cash prize will be $25,000, with a $2,500 cash prize for the putting contest.

The entry fee costs $100 per player. New teams which have never participated in the tournament can take advantage of a team discount of $360, or $90 per player. Dinner follows the tournament, with a bagged lunch before the shotgun start. 

Corporate sponsor packages are available, as well as hole and cart sponsor opportunities.

All proceeds benefit the Children’s Village life-safety education program.

Children’s Village is a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing free life-safety education to elementary school children in Washington County. More than 2,000 students visit the Mount Aetna Road complex each school year.

Volleyball clinic planned at Hicks

A volleyball clinic for girls will be held at E. Russell Hicks Middle School this month.

The two-day clinic will be for girls entering  sixth, seventh and eighth grades who are interested in playing volleyball for the school.
