Blue Ridge CTC offering HR management classes

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. — In partnership with the National Society for Human Resource Management, or SHRM, and Eastern Panhandle SHRM, Blue Ridge Community and Technical College is offering the SHRM Essentials of HR (human resources) Management course.

The classes will be at the Blue Ridge Community and Technical College Tech Center, 13650 Apple Harvest Drive, Martinsburg.

• Course 1: SHRM Learning System class begins Saturday, Sept. 14, and meets from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturdays, Sept. 14, Oct. 19 and Nov. 23, and from 5:30 to 9 p.m. Wednesdays, Sept. 25, Oct. 9 and 30, and Nov. 13. The orientation meeting to distribute books will be Wednesday, Sept. 4, from 6 to 7 p.m. The registration deadline is Friday, Aug. 23.

The fee for the course is $998; Eastern Panhandle SHRM members pay $960.

The course offers an up-to-date overview of key human-resources management concepts and trends; content based on the new latest HR Certification Institute body of knowledge; six printed workbooks that cover topics tested on the certification exam; and more than 1,600 test questions and an online resource center.

Three college credits can be earned for completing the course, and employers’ tuition reimbursement programs might cover the cost.

• Course 2: SHRM Essentials of HR Management class begins Saturday, Oct. 26, and meets from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Oct. 26, and from 5:30 to 9 p.m. Tuesdays, Oct. 29 and Nov. 5. The registration deadline is Friday, Oct. 18.

The fee for the course is $395.

This course is geared toward new and junior human-resources practitioners, small-business owners, office managers, new and experienced managers seeking human-resources knowledge and job seekers. The course provides an overview of human-resources roles and responsibilities. It covers topics such as employment law, selecting qualified employees, compensation, orientation and training, and performance management.

To apply for either the Professional in Human Resources exam or the Senior Professional in Human Resources exam, candidates must have a combination of education and professional human-resources experience.
