MARTINSBURG, W.Va. — Two people sustained life-threatening gunshot wounds Thursday morning at an exotic dance club near Martinsburg, according to a news release from the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office.

The shooting was reported at 3:11 a.m. at Legz Club, 84 Aero St., the  release said.

The scene was “very chaotic” when deputies arrived, and they requested support from West Virginia State Police and Martinsburg City Police to control the crowd and preserve the crime scene, the sheriff’s office said.

Investigators determined four shots were fired inside the club. A male patron was hit three times, and a woman employee was struck once, according to the sheriff’s office.

Both were taken to a local hospital, the release said.

The sheriff’s office attempted to find witnesses inside the club to help identify the person responsible for the shooting, the release said.

Lt. Gary Harmison said Thursday afternoon that he still could not release names of the male and the woman who were shot.

He said investigators were still trying to determine a motive for the shooting.

Anyone with information may call Harmison at 304-267-7000, or Crime Solvers at 304-267-4999. Callers may remain anonymous, police said.
