Antietam Exchange Club hears about Ag Expo & Fair's history

July 31, 2013

The Antietam Exchange Club recently welcomed Sue Hall, president of the Washington County Agricultural Organization Inc., the group that puts on the annual Washington County Ag Expo & Fair.

Hall gave a brief history of the local fair, which was originally held at what is now City Park. The livestock drank from the pond there, she said.

It was then moved to the Hagerstown Fairgrounds, and is now held at the Washington County Agricultural Education Center on Sharpsburg Pike.

The ag organization consists of 15 volunteer members. The goal of the board this year was to re-establish the identity of the fair. The board members did a lot more advertising and public outreach to try to increase gate attendance by 25 percent.

Hall provided each member in attendance with a program booklet  and one free adult admission ticket.

The Antietam Exchange Club meets Tuesdays at 7:30 a.m. at the Academy Theater. Those interested are invited to attend.
