CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. — Police continue to look for suspects in the July 18 shooting death of a 44-year-old Chambersburg man in front of his King Street home, Chambersburg Police Chief David Arnold said Wednesday.

“We’re continuing to investigate,” Arnold said. “We have no arrests to announce yet. We’re working the case.”

David Wayne Gipe was found in front of his residence at 354 W. King St., a two-story brick duplex, at about 11:15 p.m., police said.

Gipe was shot once in the upper abdomen toward the shoulder area, Arnold said.

Items in the case have been sent out for testing, he said.

“There was a gun involved, what caliber, what size — all that we don’t know yet,” Arnold said.

Arnold declined to comment on a possible motive for the shooting.

“We are working this feverishly. I feel very confident we will be able to complete the investigation. Now, when that happens, I don’t know,” he said.

“I can’t sit here and say the arrest will be tomorrow or a week from now. You just don’t know. You have to work with the (district attorney’s) office, and homicides are a lot more complicated than a regular investigation,” Arnold said.

This is the first homicide in the borough this year.

There were two homicides in Chambersburg in 2012.   Calvin Beam was gunned down on Franklin Street in September, and Victor Hugo Campos-Olguin was fatally shot on East King Street in October.
