CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. — The actions of two quick-thinking Dollar Tree patrons aided police in arresting a Franklin County man charged in robberies at the Dollar Tree and two other local businesses.

Timothy Dean Robinson, 53, of Broad Street in Chambersburg has been charged with robbery and theft by unlawful taking in the following incidents:

• The Dollar Tree on Monday.

• 5 Below on Norland Avenue in Chambersburg on Monday.

• The Rite Aid at 415 E. Queen St. in Chambersburg on July 19, according to police.

Robinson was being held Wednesday night in the Franklin County Jail.

His preliminary hearing is scheduled for Aug. 6 at 8:15 a.m. before Magisterial District Judge Duane Cunningham.

On Monday, a man entered the Dollar Tree store and, as the employee opened the register to complete his transaction, the suspect said: “This is a robbery,” police said in a news release.

He then went behind the counter and began taking money from the register, the release said.

The employee struggled with the man briefly before he fled the store with cash from the register, police said.

As he fled the store, two patrons of the Dollar Tree chased after the man and caught him a short distance from the store, the release said.

They were able to detain him until police arrived.

Police did not release the names of the patrons.

Once in custody, Robinson was questioned regarding another robbery at the 5 Below store and one at the Rite Aid on July 19, police said.

He was later charged in those incidents.
