Carley Godsey of Hagerstown recently was recognized by the United States Achievement Academy as a student of excellence in honor roll.

Carley attends Williamsport High School. She was nominated for the honor by Randy Longnecker, a counselor at the school.

Carley’s name will appear in the academy’s yearbook, which is published nationally.

Carley is the daughter of Tammy Karn-Godsey and Woody Godsey of Hagerstown, and the granddaughter of Judie and Wilmer Karn of Hagerstown.


SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. — Marissa Lupersbeck of Hagerstown graduated summa cum laude from Shippensburg University with a Bachelor of Science and teaching certification in middle level/elementary education for mathematics and science in grades four to eight.

Lupersbeck completed her student teaching at Yellow Beaches Middle School in Boiling Springs, Pa.

During her four years at Shippensburg, Lupersbeck achieved the dean’s list each semester and received the George A. Myers Memorial Scholarship in Education.

In addition to her studies, Lupersbeck was a member of the Collegiate Middle Level Teaching Association all four years. She also participated in several fundraising events benefiting Shippensburg-area children, and was involved in intramural soccer, volleyball and basketball.

Lupersbeck is a 2009 graduate of Smithsburg High School.

Lupersbeck is the daughter of Pat and Chris Lupersbeck and granddaughter of Joseph and Patricia Lupersbeck.

Lupersbeck has accepted a position with the Washington County Board of Education teaching eighth-grade mathematics.


ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Michael Baer of Hagerstown was awarded the Order of the Engineer at a ceremony in May at the Rochester Institute of Technology.

The recognition is given to graduates and registered engineers to foster the spirit of pride and responsibility in the engineering profession.

Baer earned a Bachelor of Science in mechanical engineering and a Master of Engineering in mechanical engineering from the college’s Kate Gleason College of Engineering.


IOWA City, Iowa — Cyrus Dobre-Mofid of Hagerstown was named to the dean’s list for the spring semester at the University of Iowa.

Dobre-Mofid is a student in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences.


NEW YORK — Alyssa N. Snowden of Hagerstown was named to the dean’s list for the spring semester at LIM College.

Timothy C. Abeles of Hagerstown, a senior majoring in wildlife science in the College of Natural Resources and Environment.

Maxlorenzo Agbayani of Martinsburg, W.Va., a junior majoring in biological sciences in the College of Science.

Tyler P. Brown of Clear Spring, a junior majoring in political science in the College of Liberal Arts and Human Sciences.

Devin M. Diehl of Keyser, W.Va., a senior majoring in human nutrition, foods and exercise in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences.

Jacob N. Geffert of Martinsburg, a senior majoring in architecture in the College of Architecture and Urban Studies.

Patrick J. Heizer of Hagerstown, a junior majoring in chemistry in the College of Science.

Adam P. Lipella of Clear Spring, a senior majoring in wood science and forest products in the College of Natural Resources and Environment.

Jacob T. Montague of Berkeley Springs, W.Va., a freshman majoring in civil engineering in the College of Engineering.

MORRISVILLE, N.Y. — The following area students graduated in May from Morrisville State College:

Wyatt Carbaugh of Greencastle, Pa. received a degree in equine science.

Paul Curley of New Market, Md., received a degree in entrepreneurship and small business management.
