Washington County Board of Education approves personnel changes

WASHINGTON COUNTY — Several personnel moves have been approved by the Washington County Board of Education in recent months, including naming new assistant principals at several schools.

The changes include:

  • Matthew A. Mauriello, who was an assistant principal at South Hagerstown High School, is now an assistant principal at Antietam Academy.

  • Sherry L. Hamilton, who also was an assistant principal at South High, is now assistant principal at Boonsboro High School.

  • Todd J. McCarty, who was an assistant principal at Springfield Middle School in Williamsport, and Sabrina N. McCoy, who was an assistant principal at Williamsport High School, are now assistant principals at South High.

  • April A. Zentmeyer, who was an assistant principal at North Hagerstown High School, is now an assistant principal at Williamsport High.

  • Amy N. Seylar, who was an administrative intern at Hancock Middle-Senior High School, is now an assistant principal at North High.

  • Robert A. Stike, who is an administrative intern at Barbara Ingram School for the Arts in Hagerstown, will become assistant principal at Clear Spring Middle School on Thursday.

  • Kyle W. Lingg, who is an assistant principal at Clear Spring Middle, will become assistant principal at Smithsburg Middle School on Thursday.

  • Josalyn A. Moskowitz, who is assistant principal at Lincolnshire Elementary School in Hagerstown, will become assistant principal at Boonsboro Elementary School on Thursday.

  • Matthew P. Wagner, who is assistant principal at Williamsport Elementary School, will become assistant principal at Lincolnshire Elementary on Thursday.

  • Christina M. Yeager, who has been an administrative intern at Boonsboro Middle School, will become assistant principal at Northern Middle School in Hagerstown on Thursday.

  • Keith O. Allshouse was hired to be assistant principal at Salem Avenue Elementary School in Hagerstown, effective Thursday. Allshouse was a lead teacher at Western Heights Middle School in Hagerstown last school year, said Laura Francisco, the school system’s director of human resources.

  • Stephen P. Ruefle was hired to be assistant principal at Williamsport Elementary, effective Thursday. Ruefle comes from Frederick County (Md.) Public Schools, where he most recently was a language-arts teacher at Walkersville Middle School, Francisco said.

  • Jethro F. Reid, who had been an assistant principal at Boonsboro High, and Daniel P. Brennan, who had been an assistant principal at Smithsburg Middle, have left the school system.

The school board also has approved some new hires at the school system’s central office, including:

  • Stephen W. Miles was appointed to be the new supervisor of visual and performing arts. Miles succeeds Rob Hovermale, who became principal at Barbara Ingram School for the Arts. Miles comes from Baltimore County Public Schools, where he was music supervisor, Francisco said. He also has experience in fine arts and performing arts, she said.

  • Timothy D. Thornburg, who was supervisor of human resources/employee and labor for the school system, has left the position.

  • David O. Chick Jr. was hired to be the coordinator of human capital: legal and labor relations. Chick, who has a law degree, will work with contract and employee relations, as well as employment law issues such as workers’ compensation and the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, Francisco said.
