Hunt brings home silver medal from USATF Outdoor Junior Olympics

TRACK & FIELD

Jalyx Hunt, of Hagerstown’s Mach 1 Track Club, earned a silver medal and All-American status in the high jump at the 2013 USATF Outdoor Junior Olympics this past weekend in Greensboro, N.C.

Hunt, competing in the boys 11-12 age division, placed second out of 45 competitors with a jump of 4 feet, 11 inches. He also placed 14th out of 41 in the long jump at 15-8 3/4.

Also for Mach 1, Tarin Branch placed 14th out of 52 in the girls 11-12 long jump (14-6 1/2), Daniel Stokes finished 21st out of 45 in the boys 17-18 shot put (49-11 1/4) and 41st out of 54 in the discus (131-9), Domonique Smith Blackmond was 27th out of 35 in the boys 13-14 high jump (4-11) and Donovan McClellan was 34th out of 41 in the boys 11-12 800-meter run (2:35.51).

Hole-in-one

Greg Stuller, of Hagerstown, aced Black Rock’s seventh hole, playing 158 yards, using a 7-iron on Monday. It’s his sixth hole-in-one. Playing partners were Dean Hamburg, Rich Rostek and Kevin Naylor.

BRIEF

Ausherman 5-Miler on Aug. 10

The 26th annual Tom Ausherman Memorial 5-Mile Run will be held Aug. 10 in Chambersburg, Pa., beginning at 8:30 a.m.

The entry fee, before Aug. 1, is $30 with a T-shirt or $20 without a shirt. The entry fee after Aug. 1 and on race day is $35 with a shirt and $25 without a shirt.
