YOUTH BASEBALL

BOARDMAN, Ohio — Hagerstown broke open a tie game with three home runs in the fourth inning to back up a masterful pitching performance by Matt Harsh in an 8-3 victory over Prospects Two (Ohio) in the championship game of the PONY 14 East Zone Super Regional tournament on Sunday.

Harsh went six innings, allowing two hits and striking out 13. He worked out of a jam in the top of the fourth after Prospects tied the game at 3 and had the bases loaded with no outs. Brandon Gooden made a diving catch for the first out and Harsh struck out the next two to end the frame.

Gooden led off the bottom of the fourth with a homer to put Hagerstown ahead, 4-3. After Robert Carr walked, Harrison Barger followed with a two-run homer to make it 6-3. Bryce Ruppenthal then walked and Ryan Downes hit the third homer of the inning for an 8-3 Hagerstown lead.

Downes finished with three hits and three RBIs and Gage Kyler also homered for Hagerstown, which will open play in the East Zone tournament in High Point, N.C., at 6 p.m. Wednesday against Reidsville, N.C.
