Neighborhood meeting planned Tuesday, Aug. 6

Neighborhoods 1st Elizabethtown East will meet Tuesday, Aug. 6, at 7 p.m. at the Corner Pub in Hagerstown.

The meeting will be light spirited in nature. Snacks will be provided.

Maps of the neighborhood will be handed out. Some of the Sanborn Fire Insurance maps date back from 1887 to 1950.  

Indoor yard sale planned at church

St. Andrews United Methodist Church will hold its annual yard sale Saturday from 7 a.m. to noon.
The church is at 1020 Maryland Ave., across from South End Shopping Center in Hagerstown.

For sale will be household items, linens, seasonal decorations, clothes for the entire family, books, magazines and other items.

This year, there will also be collectible dolls, stamps, Boyds bears and glassware.

It will be held indoors.

Share Week party set for Friday

The North Pointe branch of Washington County Free Library will hold a Share Week party Friday at 3 p.m.

It is targeted for those ages 10 and older. 

The event will include food, games and crafts.

Class of 1968 to hold reunion

The South Hagerstown High School Class of 1968 will get together Friday, Sept. 13, and Saturday, Sept. 14.

Science week for girls planned

Discovery Station will hold its Amazing Science Week for girls from Aug. 5 to 9.

It is a hands-on, educational learning experience to introduce girls to engineering and science disciplines.

It is geared for those entering fourth, fifth and sixth grades.

This is the first program where parents/grandparents will not attend with the girls.

There will be 15 girls in each session.

The morning session will be from 10 a.m. to noon and the afternoon session will be from 2 to 4 p.m.

A snack will be provided each day.

The workshop costs $30. Scholarships are available.

Discovery Station is on West Washington Street in downtown Hagerstown.

Art exhibit planned at Mansion House

Valley Art Association will hold an exhibit titled “Fall Harvest Colors” Friday through Sept. 29 at the Mansion House Art Center behind City Park in Hagerstown.

The all-members exhibit will be held in the North Gallery.

The gallery is open Friday and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sunday from 1 to 5 p.m.

The Mansion House is at 501 Highland Way.

Volleyball clinic to be held in August

A volleyball clinic for girls entering sixth, seventh and eighth grades will be held at E. Russell Hicks Middle School in August.

Girls interested in playing volleyball for the school team are invited.

The clinics will be two-day sessions in August.
