WILLIAMSPORT — Maryland Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve, or MDESGR, a Department of Defense agency, recently announced that Matthew Mudge, second-shift product availability supervisor for Pepsi Co. in Williamsport, was honored with a Patriot Award in recognition of support of Staff Sgt. Daniel Myers, an employee serving in the Maryland Army National Guard.

“The Patriot Award was created by ESGR to publicly recognize individuals who provide outstanding patriotic support and cooperation to their employees, who, like the citizen warriors before them, have answered their nation’s call to serve,” Ron Pitts, Western Maryland Area chairman for MDESGR, said in a news release.

“Mr. Matthew Mudge was nominated for being highly supportive of the National Guard by his Reserve Component employee. Supportive supervisors are critical to maintaining the strength and readiness of the nation’s Guard and Reserve units,” Pitts said.

Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve is a DOD agency established in 1972 to develop and maintain employer support for Guard and Reserve service.

It advocates relevant initiatives, recognizes outstanding support, increases awareness of applicable laws, and resolves conflict between service members and employers. Paramount to its mission is encouraging employment of Guardsmen and Reservists who bring integrity, global perspective and proven leadership to the civilian workforce.
