July 27, 2013

A Sharpsburg man who was immobilized in his yard for three days after falling 4 feet from his porch was rescued Saturday and flown to Meritus Medical Center, according to a fire official.

The man was discovered Saturday afternoon outside of his home on Hoffmaster Road in Sharpsburg by a tenant who rents property from him, Potomac Valley Fire Co. Chief Eric Gray said.

The man was taken to Meritus Medical Center by a Maryland State Police helicopter, Gray said.

The man had been immobilized since Wednesday, Gray said.

Sharpsburg EMS and the fire company were dispatched to the scene Saturday at about 12:15 p.m., a Washington County Emergency supervisor said.

The man was sitting on his porch Wednesday morning when his chair gave way. He fell off the porch and landed in his yard, which is on a slope, Gray said.

The man attempted to make it to the main road, but was unable to do so, Gray said.
