Two local umps to work at regional tourney level

July 25, 2013

Two Washington County Little League umpires will continue their seasons in upcoming tournaments that run from Aug. 2-7.

And as always, they will be doing it on a volunteer basis.

Walt Trumpower, of Williamsport, will be on the umpiring crew in the Senior League Baseball Eastern Regional in West Deptford, N.J.

Jimmy Rux, of Hagerstown, will head to Freehold Township, N.J., for the Junior League Baseball Eastern Regional.

Both have been busy working tournaments in Washington County, including the Maryland State Softball tournament at Sharpsburg.

Trumpower and Rux were selected by the Eastern Region after recommendations from District 1.

This will be the first regional assignment ever for Trumpower, who has umpired for 21 years, including 12 as umpire-in-chief for Conococheague Little League.

Rux has been giving his time for 18 years to umpiring beginning in Pennsylvania and then as the umpire-in-chief for Federal Little League. In 2006, Rux umpired in the 11-12 Eastern Regional baseball tournament in Bristol, Conn., and the Big League Eastern Regional in Dover, Del., in 2010.

Trumpower and Rux will umpire at least six games each.
