Funkstown 4, Damascus 0

CUMBERLAND, Md. — John Britton allowed just one hit in 8 1/3 innings to lead Funkstown Post 211 to a win over Damascus on Thursday to remain unbeaten in the Maryland State Tournament.

Britton struck out nine as Funkstown improved to 3-0 in the tournament. Brad Enfield had two doubles and two RBIs for the winners.

Funkstown faces Talbot today at 1 p.m.


Maryland Junior Tournament

Valley 15, West Salisbury 3

RISING SUN, Md. — Ryan Kolich had two hits and drove in four runs to lead Valley past West Salisbury in the Maryland Junior Tournament losers’ bracket final that was halted after five innings due to the 10-run rule.

McCoy Dutrow had two hits and three RBIs, Jared Durning and Trevor Hatcher added two RBIs each and Ryan Bywaters had two hits for Valley, which will play in the championship round tonight at 7 against unbeaten Talbot.

Maryland 11-12 Tournament

Berlin 5, Brunswick 1

ARBUTUS, Md. — District 8 champion Berlin completed an unbeaten run to its first state title with a win over Brunswick in the championship round.

Berlin, which advances to the Mid-Atlantic Regional in Bristol, Conn., is 10-0 in tournament play this year.

PONY-14 Super Regional

Hagerstown 7, Prospects One 0

BOARDMAN, Ohio — Bryce Ruppenthal, Matt Harsh and Mitchell Wilson combined on a two-hit shutout with 11 strikeouts to lead Hagerstown past Prospects One in the opening round of the East Zone West Super Regional Tournament.

Ruppenthal hit two solo home runs, Harrison Barger had three RBIs and Ryan Downes added two hits for Hagerstown, which will play in a winners’ bracket game today at 3 against Tuscarawas.

River City Tournament 9-10

Federal 12, South Mountain 0

Federal: Kyle Corley, Ryan Talbert 2 hits each.

West End 17, Maugansville 2

West End: Izaiah Dillinger 3 hits; Chuck Kelly, D.J. Eby, Bailey Himes 2 hits each.

Valley 10, National 7

Valley: Josh Black 3 hits; Brady Martin, Nick Bono 2 RBIs each.

National: Mikey Witmen, Isiah Neal 2 hits each; Bradley Summers 5 Ks.
