Johanna Elizabeth Coursey, 70, of Hagerstown passed away Tuesday, July 23, 2013, at her home.

Born April 4, 1943, in Hustontown, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Leroy Ellis and Beatrice Elizabeth (Shaw) Snyder.

In addition to being a mother and homemaker, she worked in the cafeteria at Maugansville Elementary School for 15 years.

She was a member of the Paramount Brethren in Christ Church in Hagerstown.

She is survived by two daughters, Joanne DeHart of Hagerstown and Betty Hull of Fannettsburg, Pa.; two sons, Russell D. Coursey Jr. of Maugansville and Michael Coursey and wife, Rochelle, of Mercersburg, Pa.; a stepdaughter, Susan Newcomer of Waynesboro; two grandchildren, Shane Michael Coursey and Kenneth Hauck; a great-granddaughter, Kendra Hauck; and a stepgranddaughter, Nichole Newcomer.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her stepfather, Richard Shearer; her loving husband, Russell D. Coursey Sr.; two sons-in-law, Anthony DeHart and Steven Hull; one brother, Ronald Snyder; and three infant sisters.

Funeral services will be Friday, July 26, 2013, at 11 a.m. at Rest Haven Funeral Chapel, 1601 Pennsylvania Ave., Hagerstown, with Pastor James Stauffer officiating. Interment will follow in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park, Hagerstown.

The family will receive friends Thursday from 6 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
