Mail Call - July 24

July 23, 2013

“Hagerstown mayor and council, shame on you. The only reason that you will not allow the Soul Food church to serve meals to the homeless one day a week is because you don’t want the homeless to be seen in your precious downtown. May I remind you that Jesus and the 12 disciples were poor and homeless, but the believers always fed and housed them. What would you do if Jesus and the disciples would ask you for permission to teach and preach to the multitudes in the public square and provide the loaves and fishes to feed them? Would you turn them away?”
— Hagerstown

“I know they just opened a dog park in Hagerstown. Could you please find out from somebody and print in the paper, the hours that it’s open, the days that it’s open, and anything required, like, I know you need a rabies certificate; do you need a dog license to get into the park? Could you please have somebody run the rules and regulations, and hours and the days that it’s open? That would really be helpful.”
— Hagerstown

“David Hanlin article about privatizing (the) MVA is misleading. When many people show up at the same time to conduct business, of course you are going to have lines, no matter who is working. He writes about government inefficiency. I guess he never experienced it in the private sector. I certainly have. If his son would have followed up on the repair order and kept his insurance up to date, he would not have these problems.”
— Halfway

“The same day the editorial about the (MVA) appeared in the newspaper, I had my own (MVA) experience. My customer experience was great. A complication with my driver’s license renewal was resolved very professionally and efficiently. I was on my way out the door with a new license in under 10 minutes. Many thanks to the hardworking public servants at the (MVA).”

“The latest good one I heard about Hagerstown Suns baseball: Mr. Ron Bowers says we should feel sorry for Mr. Quinn, because he spent millions of dollars for the Suns. What do millionaires do with their money? I did my own little survey ... that 20 percent want a new stadium, 60 percent are against it, and 20 percent don’t even know what the heck we’re talking about. That’s my opinion.”
— Hagerstown

“Being a weatherman must be the best job on Earth. Where else could you be wrong 60 percent of the time, and still get paid for it?”
— Hagerstown

“This is to the person who saw the dogs in the car, locked in the car at City Park. Could you call back in and tell us what happened to the dogs? Did you just leave them there, or did the owners finally come back? And also, could The Herald-Mail look into why the police did not respond? And if they are not allowed to respond, then maybe the law should be changed, because I know I’ve seen in the news where other, in other localities, police do respond in such cases.”
