The heat was on

July 22, 2013|Susie Hoffman | Around Funkstown

Can you feel that lovely breeze? I am enjoying the change in temperature.

The heat wave did not keep the wave of troops from filling Funkstown with blue and gray over the weekend as the Battle of Funkstown took place.

I did not envy those men and women in their hot, wool uniforms battling in the streets and on the hillside of the park.

The encampments were lively and authentic, and the re-enactors were tenacious in their enthusiasm for living history.

Volleyball clinic for girls planned

Before you know it, it will be time to grab the backpacks and head out to the bus stop.

E. Russell Hicks Middle School is holding a volleyball clinic for girls entering sixth, seventh, and eighth grades who are interested in playing volleyball at the school.

The clinics last for two days.

For more information or to register, call Bridgett at 301-491-2393.

Chicken barbecue planned Saturday

The Funkstown Volunteer Fire Department will hold a barbecue Saturday morning.

The menu features pit beef, barbecue chicken, Italian sausage and ham sandwiches.
