Vacation Bible school

Potomac Charge United Methodist Church is sponsoring a vacation Bible school.

The theme is “Athens: Paul’s Dangerous Journey to Share the Truth.”

 The Bible school will run from Aug. 11-16 from 6 to 8:30 p.m. 

There will be a family program and picnic on Friday, Aug. 16, at 6 p.m.

The school will be held at Parkhead UMC, 9512 National Pike in Big Pool.

Roast beef dinner planned

Clear Spring Volunteer Fire Co. will hold a roast beef dinner Sunday, beginning at 11 a.m. at the special events building on the carnival grounds (Big Springs Road).

The menu includes hot roast beef sandwich, mashed potatoes, vegetable, applesauce, and beverage. The meal costs $8 for adults and $4 for those ages younger than 8.

A bake stand will also be available.

 The event kicks off Carnival Week for the fire company.

Carnival to open

The annual Clear Spring Volunteer Fire Co. Carnival will be July 29 to Aug. 3 at the carnival grounds on Big Springs Road.  

Entertainment this year will be: 

  • Monday, July 29 —  W.T. Fleming and No Fences (local band)
  • Tuesday, July 30 — The Avalons (1950s and ‘60s band)
  • Wednesday, July 31 — The Back Creek Valley Boys (bluegrass band)
  • Thursday, Aug. 1 — Hick Town (country band)
  • Friday, Aug. 2 — Marie (Reba impersonator)
  • Saturday, Aug. 3 — Reagan Years (1980s band)

Library news

Critters and Conservation will be held Wednesday, July 31, at 3:30 p.m. at the Clear Spring Library. Attendees will be able to interact with live animals.
