Gas prices are on the rise for the third straight week, jumping by double-digits in Hagerstown, according to a survey.

The local average for regular unleaded gas was $3.64 a gallon Monday, up from the $3.52 average the previous week, according to the AAA Daily Fuel Gauge Report online at www.fuelgaugereport.aaa.com.

That is also up from the $3.43 average a month ago and the $3.39 average this time a year ago.

Meanwhile, the national average for regular unleaded gas rose 6 cents a gallon from $3.61 last week to $3.67 Monday, up from the $3.58 average a month ago and $3.46 a year ago.

In Maryland, the average rose from $3.61 a gallon to $3.69 a gallon, up from $3.50 a month ago and $3.46 a year ago.

In Hagerstown, prices ranged from $3.52 a gallon at the Martins station on Wesel Boulevard, to $3.69 a gallon at the Sunoco and BP stations on Dual Highway, as well as the Long Meadow Service Center on Leitersburg Pike, according to the AAA Fuel Price Finder online at http://aaa.opisnet.com/index.aspx.

Prices were at $3.62 a gallon or higher at more than 10 local stations Monday.

Gas prices are expected to increase again nationally and locally as the price of crude oil is going up, AAA said in a news release Friday.

Ragina C. Averella, public and government affairs manager for AAA Mid-Atlantic, said in the release that unrest in Egypt, production outages and disruptions in Libya, Iraq, and Nigeria, and increased demand due to summer vacations are all contributing to the higher prices.

She said that the average could also reach or exceed its 2013 peak of $3.79 a gallon. It reached a summer low of $3.47 a gallon on July 7.

Average prices in different markets across the state of Maryland for a gallon of regular unleaded gas Monday included $3.68 in Baltimore; $3.62 in Cumberland; $3.63 in Salisbury; and $3.73 in the Maryland suburbs of Washington, D.C.

Mid-grade gas was $3.78 a gallon on average in Hagerstown Monday, premium was $3.94, and diesel fuel was $3.84.
