Conococheague, Sharpsburg played great games

To the editor:

On Friday, July 5, the Conococheague 11-12 Little League All-Stars went to Sharpsburg, where they beat the Sharpsburg team on its turf. It was a good night and a good game, and both teams played well. Conococheague definitely had some “angels in the outfield,” as they had some great defensive plays.

They came Tuesday, July 9, at Conococheague’s home field in Williamsport. The “angels” took a break as the team had some costly errors in the first few innings. Sharpsburg brought its game and was ahead by quite a few runs. But Conococheague battled back and brought the score to 6-5 in Sharpsburg’s favor. Sadly for the Conococheague team and fans, they couldn’t overtake them and Sharpsburg won. Sharpsburg played a fine game.

That brings us to Wednesday, July 10, back at Sharpsburg’s field, with the teams facing off again for the District 1 title. Whoever won this game would be the winner. So the place was packed with fans for both teams. Two local teams making good. It was going to be something to see, and it was. The “angels in the outfield” showed up again as Conococheague played a well-crafted game against a worthy opponent. Conococheague was up to the task. My grandson, Maddux Grove, hit a grand slam in the second inning, bringing the score to 6-2, and as they say, “the rest is history.” Conococheague never let up after that. Sharpsburg did narrow the gap to 9-5 at one point. But Conococheague pulled it out, ending the game with a score of 10-5.

Every single one of the boys on that team did their job and that is why they are District 1 11-12 championships. Congratulations to both Sharpsburg and Conococheague for great seasons.

Boonsboro put on a fine July 4 celebration

To the editor:

I just wanted to tell Skip Kauffman (the mayor of Boonsboro), Town Council members, park board members and the town maintenance crew what a wonderful job they did for the fireworks display on Friday night, July 5, 2013.

Everything was on time, restrooms were open, the crowd was well-behaved, it looked like the kids were having a good time on the playground equipment, the park was well-maintained and there was a very nice display of fireworks.

It was an event well done.

Thank you very much.
