One person Flown to hospital after accident on I-81 north of Pa.-Md. state line

July 22, 2013

One person was flown to a hospital early Monday evening following a single-vehicle accident in the southbound lanes of Interstate 81, just north of the Pennsylvania-Maryland state line, according to a Franklin County Emergency Services dispatcher.

The dispatcher did not know the extent of the patient’s injuries or the destination hospital.

Pennsylvania State Police are handling the investigation.

The call for the accident went out at 3:37 p.m., and emergency crews had cleared the scene by about 5:20 p.m., the dispatcher said.

Both northbound and southbound lanes had to be temporarily shut down for the helicopter to land, he  said. All lanes were reopened shortly after 5:20 p.m.

Further details were not immediately available.
