A fire that started in a carport Saturday night caused an estimated $150,000 in damages to a home in the 17300 block of Cloverleaf Road near Hagerstown, the Maryland State Fire Marshal’s Office said Monday.

The fire was discovered by a neighbor at about 10:30 p.m. Saturday, according to a fire marshal’s office news release.

Authorities said they were investigating the origin of the fire, which caused an estimated $100,000 to the single-story structure and $50,000 to the contents.

Fifty-four firefighters from Halfway, Williamsport, Funkstown, Maugansville and Longmeadow took about 40 minutes to bring the fire under control.

The Red Cross was called to assist the occupant, the release said.
