What’s all the fuss about Paula Deen?

To the editor:

What is all this ruckus about Paula Deen, a lady who has worked hard to make a living for herself and is not just sitting on her behind collecting welfare? Why is she being treated like dirt because many years ago she might have used a word that she shouldn't have?

I have seen her on TV, but I cannot say I am a diehard fan, so that is not why I’m writing. I just hate to see people mistreated. She was honest and apologized. If God can forgive her, who are people to be so high and mighty? Have they never called someone a name or been mean or had a not-so-nice thought?

And the wedding where she had people dress like in a classic movie ... Did she put a gun to their heads and make them do it? I don’t think so. We can all live together on this earth without being so jealous that we want to yell that someone is being mean to us because (fill in the blank). Do we just hate to see someone make something of themselves? A few years ago, it was Martha Stewart. She did what many others did, but she was well-known. But she fixed her enemies, coming back stronger than before.

How about the actors, singers, sports figures and politicians with all the awful, embarrassing things they do and say? Some are a disgrace to America. Have they been dropped from product endorsements or spoken out against? Needless to say, a lot of them deserve that and more. Often they are rewarded. People read their books and make them heroes.

People should fight for something that really counts. Be happy and enjoy life. It can be really short.
