Caroline L. Long, 72, passed away Friday, July 5, 2013, at her home in Hagerstown.

Caroline was born Nov. 5, 1940, in Muncy, Pa.

Caroline earned a Bachelor of Arts from Lewis and Clark College in Portland, Ore., and an Master of Arts from the University of Washington. She also completed course work toward a doctorate in American literature at George Washington University in Washington, D.C.

At different points in her life, Caroline worked for the Department of the Army, taught courses at George Washington University, and wrote newsletters for Business Publishers Inc. in Silver Spring, Md.

Caroline was preceded in death by her parents, Ralph E. MacMullan and Bessie (Sprout) MacMullan; and her husband, George Joseph Long.

Caroline is survived by a sister, Katherine Butler of Wayne, Neb.; a nephew, Aaron Butler of Salisbury, N.C.; and a cousin, Sandra Richardson of Dallas, Pa.

Caroline was an avid reader and an active patron of the Williamsport Public Library. She also loved dogs and supported the SPCA and UNICEF.

Witty, kind and generous, Caroline will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
