Carmen Joseph Veneziano, 30, of Hagerstown, Md., passed away Wednesday, July 17, 2013, at Meritus Medical Center surrounded by his family.

Born Tuesday, June 21, 1983, in Silver Spring, Md., he was the son of Teresa Veneziano and Kathleen Veneziano McCauley.

He was a 2001 graduate of St. Maria Goretti High School. He also graduated summa cum laude from Frostburg State University at the University System of Maryland at Hagerstown in 2011, and the University of Maryland, Baltimore County in 2012, where he earned his master's degree. He was currently enrolled at UMBC, where he was working on his doctorate.

He was a professor at Frostburg State University at USMH, where he was the founder and president of the student council. He was a member of the American Sociological Association, and a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church.

He is also survived by his sister, Colleen McCauley of Hagerstown; uncles, John Veneziano of Maryland and Kevin Veneziano; aunt, Jeannie, and cousin, Annie, of Florida; grandmother, Rosemary Veneziano of Hagerstown; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.

He was preceded in death by grandfather, Carmen N. Veneziano.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Wednesday, July 24, 2013, at 10:30 a.m. in Pangborn Hall at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 224 W. Washington St., Hagerstown, with the Rev. James Nirappel as celebrant. Interment will be in Rest Haven Cemetery, Hagerstown.

The family will receive friends Tuesday, July 23, 2013, from 6 to 9 p.m. at Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home, Hagerstown.
