School system offices to get new roof

Washington County Public Schools’ new administrative offices are getting a new roof, with the work to be done before the staff begins moving in as early as late this year, school system officials said.

The Washington County Board of Education unanimously approved a consent agenda on Tuesday that included the roof contract.

J&R Roofing Co., of Jessup, Md., was awarded the project with a bid of $448,633, according to presentation documents.

Two of the five bids from different companies were determined to be “nonresponsive,” the presentation documents said. One bid was not “bondable” for the full amount, and another didn’t submit a required bid proposal affidavit.

Work on the project, at 10435 Downsville Pike, was to begin immediately and be done by the end of November, the document said.

The school board voted unanimously Tuesday to accept the donation.

The money will be used to help pay for team transportation costs and referee fees, the document said.
