Sharpsburg eliminated from state 9-10 tourney

YOUTH BASEBALL

WILLARDS, Md. — The Sharpsburg Little League 9-10 All-Stars were eliminated from the Maryland State Tournament on Tuesday, falling 4-1 to Elkton in the losers’ bracket semifinal at Willards Little League.

In what was primarily a pitching duel, Nolan Tull and Christopher Pearce each went 2-for-3 with an RBI to lead Elkton.

Sharpsburg was held to two hits — one each by Josh Giffen and Josh Grubb.

On Monday, Sharpsburg stayed alive with a wild 16-15 victory over Easton. No other information was provided.

WRESTLING

Colbert, Balcita winless at nationals

FARGO, N.D. — Team Maryland’s Brendon Colbert and Gene Balcita, who both will be seniors at North Hagerstown, each went 0-2 at the USA Wrestling Junior National Greco-Roman Tournament, for ages 16-18. Both competed in the 145-pound class.

Colbert fell 8-4 to Missouri’s Grant Leeth and then lost 11-4 to Nevada’s London Thomas. Balcita was pinned in 56 seconds by Idaho’s Jared Johnshoy, before falling 8-1 to Missouri’s Jeff Held.
