Suns lose to Braves, fall behind Crawdads

July 15, 2013

HAGERSTOWN — The Hagerstown Suns regained the lead in the South Atlantic League’s Northern Division standings Sunday afternoon.

That lead lasted less than 24 hours.

The Suns didn’t muster much offense in a Monday morning matinee at Municipal Stadium, getting just six hits in a 3-1 loss to the Rome Braves.

The loss by Hagerstown (53-39, 15-10 second half), combined with Hickory’s 3-0 win over Lakewood, dropped the Suns one half-game behind Hickory in the division. The Suns begin a three-game series against the Crawdads in Hickory on Wednesday.

The Suns struck first in the third inning as Stephen Perez drew a leadoff walk and eventually scored on a bloop single by Khayyan Norfork.

Rome got that run right back in the top of the fourth on Edison Sanchez’s RBI single to center.

In the fifth, Rome catcher Tyler Tewell broke the 1-1 tie with a two-run homer, his sixth of the season.

Ian Dickson (0-2) took the loss for the Suns, allowing two earned runs on four hits in five innings.
