Orchestra in concert Sunday at Shafer Park

The Boonsboro Park Board will present the Martinsburg (W.Va.) Jazz Orchestra in concert Sunday at 6:30 p.m. in the band shell at Shafer Park. 

The orchestra performs classic swing and contemporary big-band music. 

Attendees are encouraged to bring lawn chairs. 

Lions Club to host guest speaker

The Boonsboro Lions Club will hold its regular meeting Wednesday, July 24, at 6:30 p.m. at the Boonsboro American Legion.
The guest speaker will be Debra Smith, Boonsboro’s town manager.

Chicken barbecue planned for July 27

The Lions Club will hold a chicken barbecue Saturday, July 27, in the lot next to Columbia Bank beginning at 9:30 a.m.  All proceeds will be used for the benefit of the local community.

Community concert to benefit mission trip

Brownsville Church of the Brethren, at 1911 Rohrersville Road, invites the community to a benefit concert by Touchdown Sunset on Saturday, July 27. 

Doors will open at 6:30 p.m. and a silent auction will be held. Refreshments will be available.  All donations will support the church’s missions and outreach.

Haley Dagenhart is going to Dublin, Ireland, in September to work with inner-city youth and the homeless.

Fahrney-Keedy Home plans summer festival

Fahrney-Keedy Home and Village in Boonsboro will host its ninth annual summer festival Saturday, Aug. 17, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Boonsboro Library events scheduled

July 16 is the third Tuesday of the month, which means the Afternoon Book Club will meet at the Boonsboro branch of the Washington County Free Library, beginning at 3 p.m. The discussion will be about the book “Behind the Beautiful Forevers” by Katherine Boo.

On Thursday at 6 p.m., Book Share will be held. Attendees are encouraged to bring their favorite book to share.

On Thursday, the Third Thursday Book Club meets at Turn the Page Bookstore and Café at 1 p.m. This month’s selection is “Sharp Objects” by Gillian Flynn.
