Funkstown will commemorate the 150th anniversary of the Battle of Funkstown on Saturday and Sunday with battle re-enactments and other Civil War-related activities.

The battle was fought July 10, 1863.

Funkstown residents are encouraged to have food for the troops, who will be foraging Saturday morning, beginning at 9 a.m. Any food that is not consumed by the troops will be donated to the local food bank.

Just before 10 a.m., the main street in Funkstown will be blocked for the street battle, which should last about an hour.

There will be another battle later in the afternoon on the hill in Funkstown Community Park. The battle will start at 4 p.m.

The park will be filled with tents, troops, campfires, vendors and food.

There will be fireworks in the evening, along with music by the 97th Regimental String Band.

On Sunday, a pancake breakfast will be held from 7 to 11 a.m. in the pavilion adjacent to Robert Kline Way. Funkstown Volunteer Fire Co. will provide the all-you-can-eat pancake breakfast, which will cost $6.

There will be another battle Sunday at 1 p.m.
