Sharpsburg off to 2-0 start at state tourney

Maryland 9-10 State Tournament

CHESAPEAKE CITY, Md. — The Sharpsburg Little League team started the state tournament with two victories.

Sunday, Sharpsburg stayed alive in the winners’ bracket with a 3-2 win over Tri-City as Sylvan Downin and Madison Griffith pulled off a double steal for the go-ahead run in the top of the fifth.

Pitching was strong for Sharpsburg in both games. Sunday, Bri Pittsnogle allowed only one hit and struck out nine. In Saturday’s 8-3 victory over Delmar, Rachel Roupe went the distance on a one-hitter, also with nine strikeouts.

Roupe also had three hits and Courtney Bergan and Madison Tarmon had two hits each.

Sharpsburg plays Chesapeake City on Monday at 5:30 p.m.


Hagerstown finishes 2nd at PONY-13 Regional Tournament

BOARDMAN, Ohio — Hagerstown finished second out of 10 teams at the East Zone West Regional Tournament to advance to the Eastern Regional tourney, which begins Friday in Cranberry, Pa.

Hagerstown fell 16-6 to the Premier Pythons in the championship round Sunday after edging North Hills 8-7 in the losers’ bracket final earlier in the day to secure a top-two spot. Only the top two teams advanced.

Chase Metz and Connor Michael each had two hits and an RBI in the victroy over North Hills.

Maryland 9-10 State Tournament

WILLARDS, Md. — The Sharpsburg All-Star team split its first two games in the state tournament.

On Sunday, Sharpsburg lost to Delmar 13-2 after a 14-10 victory over Hughesville on Saturday.

Sharpsburg plays Easton in the losers’ bracket Monday evening at 6.

Williamsport 4, Chaney 3

Williamsport: Luke Harsh, Bryce Byers, Colby Byers 2 hits each; Chase Eichelberger 2 RBIs; Hunter Maloy 6 Ks.

Williamsport 19, Chaney 3
