Declaration of Independence an amazing document

To the editor:

The Declaration of Independence is amazing. How many of you know what it is or have read it or care?

“When in the course of human events it becomes necessary for one people to dissolve the political bands which have connected them with another and to assume among the powers of the earth, the separate and equal station to which the Laws of Nature and of Nature’s God entitle them, a decent respect to the opinions of mankind requires that they should declare the causes which impel them to the separation.”

This is the greatest document ever. You can read the original on display at the National Archives. And I believe that anyone who reads the Declaration of Independence will forever reject leftist ideas. Some of the reasons they gave for sending this declaration to King George were: for imposing taxes on us without our consent; he has refused his assent to laws necessary for the public good; he has made judges dependent on his will alone for the tenure of their offices and the amount and payment of their salaries; he has erected a multitude of new offices and sent hither swarms of officers to harass our people.

It’s amazing how up to date this document was and is.

Drivers need to be more cautious

To the editor:

I don’t drive yet, but I want to talk to those who do drive. There have been many accidents on I-81, I-70 and our local highways. Many drivers are using their cellphones, not paying attention at all, drinking and driving, too tired to be driving and driving way too fast. Drivers need to be more cautious when driving in bad weather.

Please drive defensively. Make safety your No. 1 priority. Give your total attention to your driving. Life is so precious. Life is short enough. Besides, what’s more important — getting to your destination five minutes sooner or getting to your destination? Think about it. Mom always tells me to make good decisions and choices.
