Man shot multiple times in leg in Martinsburg

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. — A man who was shot multiple times in the leg early Friday in Martinsburg later told police that the suspect called his name before shooting him, according to a news release.

Officers responded to the 400 block of Porter Avenue for a report of shots fired at 1:26 a.m. and found Aaron Warner, 29, had been shot, Martinsburg Police Department Detective J.D. Luciano said in the announcement.

Warner, who was in stable condition, told police that the shooter was wearing a blue hoodie. The victim told police the suspect was a black male and that he believed another male was with the shooter close by, according to the news release.

At the hospital, the victim told police he was walking on Porter Avenue when someone approached him from behind, calling his name, according to the news release. The victim said he turned around and was then shot multiple times.

Warner could not provide additional description of the suspect or identify either male, police said.

Martinsburg Police were unable to locate the shooter after the Berkeley County Sheriffs Department  assisted with a K-9 amid rainy conditions.
