Emergency personnel respond to report of stabbing at MCI

July 12, 2013

Emergency medical personnel responded to reports of a stabbing at the Maryland Correctional Institution-Hagerstown about 9:30 p.m. Friday, according to a communications supervisor at Washington County Emergency Services.

A 36-year-old male patient was transported to the Meritus Medical Center near Hagerstown after the incident, according to the supervisor.

A patient condition was not available, nor was there any information about whether the victim was an inmate.

It was the second stabbing incident at the prison in less than a week.

Another stabbing was reported at the prison Monday night. That incident is being probed by a state prison investigative unit.

In Monday’s incident, a 34-year-old inmate was taken to Meritus Medical Center to be treated for wounds to his arm, head and back, according to a previous report.

Another inmate who suffered superficial cuts in Monday’s incident was treated at the prison.
