Maryland State Police Hagerstown barrack first in state with Facebook page

July 12, 2013

Maryland State Police in Hagerstown will be the first barrack in the state to have its own Facebook page, the agency announced this week.

The state police department currently has its own statewide page but individual barracks do not.

Hagerstown’s barrack commander, Lt. Michael Fluharty, saw an opportunity to reach out to more area residents and provide beneficial information, police said in an emailed release.

Social media are quickly becoming the instant news and informational sources for many areas, including law enforcement, the release said.

The page will update users on current conditions, road closures, emergency situations and public awareness, the release said.

The site also will provide educational resources and links to other government websites. The current page is still under construction, and items will be added daily, the release said.

Those wishing to subscribe to the Hagerstown barrack Facebook page may “like” or send a “friend” request to state police in Hagerstown, the release said.
