Funkstown rallies for walk-off win

Funkstown 8, Sykesville 7

FUNKSTOWN — Charles Cvijanovich hit a walk-off RBI single to score pinch-runner Troy Carbaugh as Funkstown Post 211 rallied with four runs in the bottom of the seventh in a win over Sykesville Post 223 on Thursday.

Brad Enfield had two hits, including a two-run double, Brandon Toloso had two hits and two RBIs, Zach Lucas had two hits, including an RBI triple, Mark Grunberg had two hits and an RBI and Cvijanovich had two hits for Funkstown (16-5, 7-2).

PONY-13 Regional Tournament

Hagerstown 15, Players Bulls 0

BOARDMAN, Ohio — The Hagerstown All-Stars defeated the Players Bulls 15-0 in the opening round of the East Zone West Regional Tournament on Thursday.

Garrett Embly and Jaret Lazich each had three hits for Hagerstown.

Hagerstown will play in a winners’ bracket game Friday evening at 5:30.

MINOR LEAGUE BASEBALL

Binford falls to 5-4

LEXINGTON, Ky. — Hagerstown native Christian Binford again had little offensive support from his Lexington teammates and was the losing pitcher in a 3-1 setback against Greensboro on Thursday in the South Atlantic League.

Binford had his longest outing of the year, going eight innings, allowing six hits, two earned runs, walking only one and striking out eight. He is now 5-4 with a 2.09 earned run average.

Lexington managed only two hits.

William “Mace” Hunt scored a hole-in-one at The Greens at Hamilton Run on Wednesday, using hybrid to ace the 141-yard, par-3 seventh hole. The shot was witnessed by Donald O’Brien.

BRIEF

Monster trucks on display

Four monster trucks will be on display at area Advance Auto Parts stores on Thursday, July 18.

The four trucks — Gravedigger, Son-uva-Digger, Gunslinger and Black Stallion — will be making promotional stops before competing in the Advance Auto Parts Monster Jam on July 20-21 at Hagerstown Speedway.

Gravedigger will be at the Advance Auto Parts store on Virginia Avenue in Hagerstown from 2-6 p.m., while Son-uva-Digger will be at the E. Washington Street location in Hagerstown from 2-6 p.m.

Gunslinger will be shown from 2-6 p.m. at the Waynesboro, Pa., location, while Black Stallion will be at Butler Tire South Side in Frederick, Md., from 6-8 p.m.

The weekend show will feature Black Stallion, driven by Mike Vaters, and Higher Education, driven by Jim Tracy. Both drivers reside in Hagerstown.
