Mail Call - July 12

July 11, 2013

“I want to see how loud some of you President Obama supporters can cry, when Obamacare really kicks in and you see what it’s going to cost you. It’s really, really strange, I’m not talking to very many people now that supported Obama in the election. I’d like to know, if that’s the case, how he won. If you support him, you know, you should support him all the way. Don’t be afraid to say that he’s ruining the country.”
— Sharpsburg

“I really appreciate Kris Aleshire, Penny Nigh and Don Munson. There’s no poison pen from me. I appreciate their intelligence, their sensibility and their practicality. The biggest complaint seems to be the bathrooms, so build them some new bathrooms. Keep the old stadium. It’s just what we need.”
— Hagerstown

“If this present administration ... they aren’t to blame for the IRS. That started back in ’94, ’95. One word changed. So maybe you need to check it out. That was not the administration’s fault.”
— Hagerstown

“When President Obama leaves the White House, he can hold his head up high and ... say I didn’t invade any countries, I didn’t kill babies, children’s fathers, mothers, hundreds of thousands. I didn’t send the troops into war without body armor. I wasn’t on a golf course with my dad, after only six months of war in Iraq, and the troops weren’t being blown to pieces because of not having the right equipment. And Obama didn’t have oil friends getting rich in Iraq. That’s the truth, like it or not.”
— Clear Spring

“I just got my property taxes. ... They told me my property taxes wouldn’t go up. Well, my property taxes didn’t go up, but that bay thing did. It just doubled. Instead of ($)30, I’m paying ($)60 now. They keep it up and Maryland’s gonna be a ghost state, because nobody’s gonna be able to live here.”
— Funkstown

“I live out at Huyetts Crossroads, there where they just did the new intersection. The other day I was going through there, and somebody was in the wrong lanes, and they almost hit us, going the other way, trying to get in the other lanes at the end. Why can’t they put the arrows back where the road’s three lanes or four lanes, down there to start at, instead of up at the end where you turn at, at the red lights? ... They need the arrows put in all the way up through there, a couple times.”
— Huyetts Crossroads

“I would like to know, who do I call when I see a animal in the car in the heat. I called the humane society a few days ago, and they were closed in the evening, when I saw two dogs at the City Park, locked in the car. Then I called the police department, and they told me they don’t handle such matters, that I was to call the humane society. ... I would like to know who I call.”
— Hagerstown

“I’d like to make a complaint about City Hall and the town council. They need to get the police department motivated and get rid of ... panhandling. You can’t even go out of your house. People are tearing plants and stuff up, on around the town. I’m a concerned resident, and they need to do something about it, because these ... panhandlers (have) got to stop, because all they’re doing is creating a big problem. This town’s got to get straightened out, or else.”
— Hagerstown

“I’d like to know if someone can explain something to me. If you’re working at a restaurant and the tips (are) left on the table, and if you get them tips, you have to give them to your manager to put in the cash register. ... You’re not allowed to keep them. Is this legal in Hagerstown? I would like somebody’s feedback on that, please. We’re doing the work, and they’re taking our tips.”

“To the mayor and town council of Funkstown: Instead of making such an ado over people making noise on a corner, do something about the sidewalks on Main Street. One has a pile of bricks and a pile of dirt, also a board that you have to walk around. On the other side of the street, there is ivy growing onto the sidewalk. You have to go single-file to walk past that house. And take the flower pots off the middle of the sidewalk.”
