Barbara A. (Newcomer) Stouffer, 81, a resident of the Village at Robinwood, Hagerstown, Md., and formerly of 13729 Frank's Run Road, Smithsburg, Md., passed away Wednesday, July 10, 2013, in the nursing home.

Born Aug. 7, 1931, in Hagerstown, she was the daughter of the late Harold F. Newcomer Sr. and Clara V. (Keyser) Newcomer.

Stouffer was a graduate of Waynesboro High School with the Class of 1949.

She and her husband, the late John W. Stouffer, were married Sept. 11, 1951 in Smithsburg. They had lived at their Frank's Run Road address since marriage. John Stouffer passed away April 3, 2008.

Stouffer was a homemaker and had been employed as a nurse for Dr. Domingo A. Garcia of Waynesboro. She also served as a volunteer at Waynesboro Hospital.

She enjoyed sewing and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.

Stouffer is survived by two children, J. Michael Stouffer and his wife, Jodie, of Smithsburg and Beth A. Joliet and her husband, Chris, of Hagerstown; seven grandchildren, Tara Wynkoop and her husband, Doug, Chris Joliet, Laura Stouffer, Andrew Joliet, Timothy Joliet, Daniel Joliet and Ellen Joliet; two great-grandchildren, Michael Wynkoop and Grayson Wynkoop; a sister, Shirley Chen of 29 Palms, Calif.; and a number of nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, Harold F. Newcomer Jr.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, July 15, 2013, in Trinity Lutheran Church, 16 N. Main St., Smithsburg, with Pastor Virgil Cain officiating.  Burial will be private in Green Hill Cemetery, Waynesboro.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday in Grove-Bowersox Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad St., Waynesboro.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Smithsburg Food Bank, in care of Trinity Lutheran Church, 16 N. Main St., Smithsburg, MD 21783.
