Hagerstown-Washington County EDC briefs

July 11, 2013

Bowers’ birthday noted during ‘Old Business’

Ron Bowers, vice chairman of the Hagerstown-Washington County Economic Development Commission, had his name called Thursday morning under “Old Business” on the panel’s regular meeting agenda.

No, he didn’t have any outstanding reports to give.

It was his birthday — his 70th to be exact.

EDC Chairman Dan Pheil made the recognition under “Old Business,” joking about Bowers’ age, drawing a laugh from everyone in attendance.

EDC members sang “Happy Birthday” to Bowers to mark the July 11 occasion before moving on through the agenda.

EDC hires new administrative assistant

Carmen Harbaugh has been hired to fill a vacant full-time administrative assistant position working in the Hagerstown-Washington County Economic Development Commission office.

Harbaugh joins the EDC staff from another county department, moving from the review and planning office, County Administrator Gregory B. Murray said.

“I’m happy to be in this new position,” Harbaugh told EDC members Thursday morning.

The job includes health care benefits and base pay at the county’s Grade 9 level, which starts at about $32,000 a year, according to previous reports in The Herald-Mail.
