Mail Call - July 10

July 09, 2013

“Could someone please tell me how people who do not deserve Social Security disability ... get it, and people who deserve it cannot get it. Somebody please answer me that question. I think it should be looked into.”
— Hagerstown

“Yes, this is concerning the gas tax in Maryland. This is more than just a coincidence. I do believe that Maryland has sworn in a new secretary of transportation, and he’s quite confident that the real project, which is called the Purple Line in Montgomery and Prince George’s counties, that they now have the revenue. Quite a coincidence, don’t you think? Now are we really going to get roads, are they really going to take care of the roads as they promised with the gas tax or is it going to be used for the Purple Line or the Red Line in Baltimore?”
— Hagerstown

“The Smithsburg speed cameras article in the Wednesday, July 3 (newspaper) states that the law set up the system to operate Monday through Friday from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. while school is in session. The council decided to remove ‘while school is in session’ to account for other school-related activities. Can you please explain to me why on July 3, Wednesday evening at 5:30, I went by the school, positively, absolutely not a car at the school, both at the school and down at Geiser Way, that you had to do 20 mph. Please let us know in Mail Call.”
— Smithsburg

“I put the comment in Mail Call about the EBT cards, the balances being $1,014, and I saw another balance of $748, and I’d just like to correct myself. Well, I was wondering why the balances were so high, but they do roll over, from month to month ... I didn’t think they rolled over like that, but they do roll over. I just want to add that.”
— Hagerstown

“With regard to President Obama’s health care law, how is it better for the individual, if it exempts the business for 2014? The individual is still required to buy health care, but the business now doesn’t have to provide it for him. So how is that better?”
— Funkstown

“The new dog park is very nice. The rules and regulations need to be posted on the outside, rather than the inside of the fence.”
— Hagerstown
