For the fifth time in less than two months, vandals broke into Municipal Stadium on Monday night, a Hagerstown Suns official said.

Interim General Manager Robert E. Bruchey II said Tuesday that the vandals broke through metal roll-down windows and ransacked concession areas. They also damaged screens, he said.

“It’s just a nightmare,” Bruchey said.

Vandals also struck the stadium May 19, June 29, July 1 and Saturday.

During those incidents, Bruchey said the intruders destroyed several cash registers, and stole beer, a 32-inch flat-screen television and a laptop computer.

He said total damages after the most recent incident Monday were estimated at $20,000.

Hagerstown Police Lt. Tom Langston said officers dusted for fingerprints and installed a camera in an effort to identify the culprits. He said police also were using other investigative methods that he declined to reveal.

Hagerstown Police Chief Mark Holtzman said in four of the burglaries, the stadium’s alarm system was not activated.

He said it is important for businesses to activate burglary systems daily because they are an effective deterrent to crime that “point police in the right direction at the right time.”
